We arrived in Ubud late at night and didn’t exactly know where the Warung Jati Homestay was. We had to walk through an alley in the dark and I thought oh god. But we finally found the homestay! It was small, cozy and surrounded by lots of greenery. Our room had a small patio that was facing a small field. It was so lovely having breakfast near our room in our pyjamas, where we talked with the waiter whilst they asked what our plans were for the day. Not to sound repetitive, but he did ask where went to school and where our parents at! That was funny though, considering we were with our cousin, who is 28 years old.
Ubud is pretty quiet and our activities consist of tasting different coffees in Kopi Luwak Coffee Plantation, visiting the Tegalalang Rice Field spontaneously trying out yoga at Yoga Barn and river rafting! I never drink coffee. Ever. Sitting down with the beautiful view of the forest whilst trying all the different types of coffee was pretty exciting for me, it tasted so so good. We learnt how coffee is made, what vanilla looks like and many more.
On our flight to Bali, Celsy and I sat next to a girl from the US traveling from Jakarta to Bali. We started talking, got each others Facebook. We talked about where we were going in Bali and it turns out she was staying at Yoga Barn not too far from our home stay. We met up and spontaneously decided to take a yoga class! I was wearing a dress (obviously wasn’t prepared) so I bought shorts from the market. I was never into yoga and this class made me realize how tiring and hard yoga is. I honestly had no idea what I was doing and whenever the instructor mentions a move, i'll just look at the person next to me to see what they were doing. Yoga is definitely not my thing but the place was gorgeous!
Our last activity
before going back to Seminyak was river rafting! This was my favourite activity in Ubud. It was thrilling, exciting and hilarious. First of all, a huge python snake
passed us whilst we were waiting to get on. It was sliding down from the rock cliffs, Celsy and i screamed enough for the rest of Ubud to hear us, ran and
jumped into the boat. It was pretty traumatic because it went inside the water but we actually forgot about it after rafting away. Pretty embarrassing... anyways, we had a
hilarious tour guide and we could not stop laughing. He made us stand up whilst sitting on the boat and was moving and a guy fell in the water, but he just laughed at him... The best part of the ride
was when he allowed us to get off the boat and float as the river current
pushed us. It was amazing floating and looking up at the view. The scariest
part was when he allowed us to float during a fast tide just before the ride ended. It was terrifying when you're being pushed by the
water with rocks underneath you. I held onto a bamboo stick, never do that! the water was going by so fast you have to let go anyway so i had tiny bamboos in my hand. I would definitely do this again (without swimming through the fast tides).
Our two favourite meals we would recommend in Ubud is duck and Taco Casa! We ate duck outside surrounded by rice fields. It was really relaxing and the portion was pretty big. We tried Taco Casa when my cousin was desperate to eat Mexican for dinner. We walked quite far form our home stay just to find Taco Casa and waited in the queue. Yep, it felt pretty great when we finally found it.
